Microsoft published a patch Tuesday to fix how its software handles the
JPEG graphics format and close a critical security hole. The
vulnerability could let attackers create an image file that would run a
malicious program on a victim's computer. Because the flaw affects so
many applications, the software giant created a separate tool to help
customers update their computers.
