I will say I have been meaning to open a support request about this very
timeout issue and then suddenly it seemed to stop, the last one occurred
Tues at 8:15 PM PDT.

To address this issue we added more server last week to our web farm and
also proactively increased timeout from build 20070223. In WM4 builds we
will also add diff updates to get AV updates much faster to customer's
gateways.

P.S.: German users using gmx.de: please include application/force-download
as scanned type to WM3 configuration as there is spreading Trojan via that
email web service. Currently only Kaspersky detects it.

Use the logs, Luke.
ISA logs all the traffic it actually sees.
If you scan the logs for failed or denied traffic from the ISA itself (GFI
WM), you might see what's happening.
FWIW, I've been seeing lots of failed updates lately.
Based on my own logs, it's clear that the GFI web farm is having "issues";
lots of 10060, 10054 errors (remote server fails to respond in a friendly
manner).
