WPAD basically works three ways: 1. DHCP 'inform' request from the client to obtain any special options (of course, client has to be DHCP to use it). This gives the client the proper request format. 2. Browser query for 'http://wpad:80/wpad.dat' 3. FW client query for 'http://wpad:80/wspad.dat' In the last two cases, either DNS or WINS static entries moist exist for "wpad" so that client requests can be resolved to an IP by the client. As far as non-local subnet clients not being able to use DHCP, you might want to look into your router's documentation for "IP helper" or "UDP helper" settings. These allow DHCP broadcasts to reach off-subnet DHCP servers. ..of course, none of this works if you disable "Publish auto discovery information" in the server properties tab... Does it work similar to DHCP where the browser would broadcast looking for a proxy server. Does this mean that clients on other subnets won't be able to pick it up?
