For me, if I search for Amazon Alexa, it’s the first one that comes up in the
search results.
You can also go to the Today, Games, or Apps tab of the App Store, then find
the My Account button towards the top right. From there, select Purchased,
where you can view and search all the apps you’ve ever downloaded, and you
could re-install it from there.
How much or often you need it is personal to you.
You may like to search and install skills from the app, but equally you may
prefer to do this on the website, or only by voice.
You may or may not want to use the Alexa voice service on your iPhone, which
can be done by selecting the Ask Alexa tab at the bottom of the app.
You may or may not want to change settings, such as changing the default music
service, the newsflash providers or to create groups of Echo devices to play
music together.
You may or may not wish to set up and manage smart home devices such as smart
plugs or lights.
You may or may not want to switch a smart plug or other device on or off when
you are out of the house. I for example will often turn my electric radiators
on before I arrive home during the winter.
So all that is to say, it can be a very useful app, but you can equally get by
just fine without it for long periods of time if you already have everything
set up the way you want :)
