Hi Everyone
Please find below, some information sent to me by David Smith, one of the
members of the Apple Club. This is regarding the latest version of the Seeing
AI App!

Hi All
Just a few weeks ago we, here in the UK, were given access to version 1 of
Microsoft's Seeing AI app. Being registered blind myself (Dave), I found this
app pretty clever, enabling me to capture short text, read documents, identify
people in a room (including how far they were away and have the ability to add
them to my photo library so that Seeing AI announced their name) and capture
scenes. I have an iPhone 5S so, due to it having a lower spec camera, I wasn't
able to access the 'Product' feature that allows you to identify items by
scanning the barcode.
This morning I have downloaded the new update, version 2 which builds upon the
previous version to include:
.Colour recognition
.Currency recognition (including recognising US dollars, Canadian dollars,
British Pounds and Euros.) .Musical light detector
.Handwriting recognition
In addition, the update allows you to have a document read aloud (even without
voiceover) and enlarge the text of the document. You can take a selfie using
the front-facing camera in the 'Person' channel and there are improvements with
the menus on the home page.
Similar to the products, the new currency detector doesn't work on the older
cameras so you'll need an iPhone 6 or later to benefit from these features.
The downside to this app is that it uses the flash lots and this, not only make
your phone very hot, it burns up the battery in no time. maybe Microsoft can
find a way of being more efficient with the battery usage or we'll have to
start carrying around several USB battery packs to keep our phones topped up!
If you've not yet downloaded this app (currently only available on iOS
devices), then get over to the App Store and download it. If you have already
downloaded version 1 and you're device isn't set to automatically update apps,
then you'll need to update the app in the 'update' tab of the App Store.
Best wishes
Dave
