The following steps are mainly focused on Aspergers and HFA youngsters
but may work well over the entire autism spectrum if training starts at
early age. Non verbal children are more prone to frustration so identify
which method of communication can help them deal with their feelings.
Do respect autistic persons and talk and behave with them with dignity.
the following steps are adapted from fb page of parents of asperger
children
1. Never try to reason with an Aspergers or High Functioning Autism child
who is enraged.
2.These young people frequently get enraged.
3. When they are enraged they can no longer think rationally and their
anger is now controlling them.
4. If the caregiver tries to control them the intensity of anger often
increases.
5. The enraged Aspergers / HFA child has lost control and may resort to a
host of venting behaviours.
6.Anger is one of those emotions that grab you before you know what is
happening.
7. Try to empathise with your child before her frustration makes way to
aggression.
8. Things will only get worse if the caregiver loses temper.
9. STOP, take a BREAK.
10.After the child has settled down help the child to decide on more
appropriate response for the situation.
11.There are 3 choices
1. teach the child to discuss about her feelings with the care giver.
2. teach the child to get help ( when angry some kids like to calm down
with the help of music or drinking cold water or breathing
exercise)
3. teach the child to slow down and persevere to prevent her temper
from escalating.
