Today again there were some heated arguments among some of us on this
topic.
I do not take my autistic child outdoors
1. if she is sick or tired
2. if it is not going to be a pleasant experience.. visiting someone on
death bed or having contagious disease
3.if it is any negative impact making talks on autism.with comments like
.. they are like this.. they cant do that...
4. too much sensory overload like a pilgrimage to a crowded holy place
possibly on empty stomach, loud devotional music,long queues ...
5. invitations by insensitive friends and relatives... some people have
the stupidity to openly comment in front of us .." Oh But God gave you a
fate like this.." Now i am seasoned enough to fight and correct such people
but my daughter feels hurt on such remarks.
I believe if each of us parents can list out the reasons why and where we
do not take our asd children we can try to find a solution.
. Someday or other my child also will be required to do something even if
she is tired. so i need to help her build stamina and will power.
someday family members too will become sick and die. need to prepare her
for unpleasant experiences.
need for self advocacy. she should learn that she is what she is ,not
what others think she is.
People have different priorities but that should not prevent us from giving
our kids a chance to prove themselves.
can i look forward to valuable inputs on this topic from Insight family?
