Hi list,
Did anyone else go to this performance? I went with a friend, and it was really great and thought-provoking. Thanks for letting us know about this, Ellen.

Inside/Out…voices from the disability community Coming to NYC

Last year, VSA arts commissioned Ping Chong & Company to create Inside/Out…voices from the disability community, which premiered at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in June 2008. Praised by the Washington Post as "compelling...riveting...consistently eye-opening," this production explores first-hand experiences of the disability community through personal narratives. Inside/Out is reality theater, weaving the cast members' individual stories with historical events. It is opening in New York City March 20 and 21 with the original cast. Both performances will be fully accessible to all audiences, including audio description, sign language interpretation, captioning, assistive listening, Braille and large print programs as well as accessible seating for people who use wheelchairs. To hear audio clips from the cast, visit www.vsarts.org<http://www.vsarts.org> and click on Inside/Out on the left side of the page.

Please help us spread the word about one of this season's freshest productions, with an authentic and sometimes irreverent take on disability.

This note was sent to me and I thought to include the additional information here:
Ellen --

I think it's important for you and those you tell about "Inside/Out" to know more about this remarkable theater piece. It is basically reader's theater. The individuals in the cast were interviewed about their life experience, including their relationship with disability. They range in age from 24 to 65, with varying disabilities. The participants tell their individual stories, but they are woven together in a kind of spoken opera, quite rhythmically, with hand claps punctuating different scenes in the show. It is a highly verbal show -- not much action on stage -- so I think it is a perfect theatrical experience for someone who is blind or has low vision.
