Epson and TVSE dot matrix printers work well. TVSE supplies ppd file also. 
For epson you can use what is available with cups.

I need model no. so that I can tell my distributor what I am looking
for.    Further search on the LX 300+II shows it is not well supported
at all under Linux.


I feel cups and dot matrix are not good combination. The printing quality and 
speed is generally very poor. In my opinion DMP are fit for text only 
printing, though graphics supported.

The environment is a law office - so it is 100% text in legal briefs.


For text only printing I avoid cups, and use a perl scripts to simply use cat 
/dev/lp?? with appropriate printer controls. Speed in this method is very 
good.

I am presuming it would be specific to printer brand/model.


LQ printing is better done by printer settings than through cups/other 
software.


Will keep it in mind.
