Sorry for mixed posts..
Formatted a partition (just for testing I used 500MB) in linux with
mkfs.vfat
After booted in windows, I tried to give a label to that partition through
Windows Administrative tools->storage.
It showed the500MB partition as FAT32 but on right clicking the partition,
the options as "Delete partition" and "Help" are enabled. So I am not able
to
assign any drive letter to that partition.

You can also create a label using fdisk i guess.
