[Ilugc] subdomains with htaccess

hi,

i wanted to create numerous subdomains dynamically using .htaccess
it is possible?
i got the link http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum92/3555.htm when i googled up
but it seems not working for me. should i have to do anyother stuff?
will it give me a good performance?
