[Ilugc] resize / (ext3) with no LVM(2) - using fdisk and ext2online - possible?

Most likely, if partition holds "system" files.
Firstly, it is pointless to keep /etc as a separate file system.
Secondly, as long as '/' is not affected, you can do without a reboot.
All you'll probably need to do is to unmount and remount the file
system in question and that would be as easy as switching to
single-user mode and back. Practically its as good as a reboot but you
can still keep your nice uptime figures and boast about it ;)
