Both of these websites provide kernel related projects for newbies.
You could also follow LKML ( Linux Kernel Mailing List) to
get an idea of what is the "in" thing in the kernel community.
But your mailbox will be flooded with 300+ emails/day.
Unless you have the right filters set dont join the list.
