futuristic to me since the last mobo that I bought was a 'tomato' for
an AMD K6 500 MHz :)
If you're getting rid of the K6-2/500 (CPU + heat sink only), drop me a
note offline. They're getting pretty hard to find around these parts.
I donot hear anything inspite of setting _everything_ listed by
'amixer' to 'full'.
Have you compiled mplayer with OSS or ALSA support? If it's the former,
you need to enable OSS emulation, etc. in your kernel config.
1. What does the term 'front panel' in the context of a mother board
refer to?
It's the set of header pins that contain the Speaker, power on, power
led, reset sw, hdd led, front usb, etc. signals. Ordinarily, you should
connect the cables that are connected to these componets/sockets in the
cabinet to this header.
but there are load and spaced-out click sounds (much
similar to someone tapping @10bpm).
Not sure, but it may be a driver issue. You've maxxed out everything
in aumix and unmuted everything, right?
My mother board does not have any compatible 0.5" stereo
sockets on it (except the 'real panel (ie,., if I understood what
'rear panel' means correctly)).
Yeah, this is a nuisance, and it's found in most of these 'entertainment
centre' cabinets. That jack pair needs to exit the cabinet (sometimes
with the help of a rear-slot L-bracket with a circular hole in it) and then
it should be plugged in the rear panel speaker and mic sockets. A classic
Taiwan-special kludge.
Some motherboards provide these signals on a header near the front
panel connectors, which can be used if you have the right cable (a pair
of sockets on one end, and a pair of berg female plugs on the other).
