[Ilugc] instead of lilo what to give for grub loader

Why? You can still have a separate entry for this
newly compiled kernel.

i say some kernel panic error,
1. It could be that your path to the new kernel is
incorrect.
OR
2. In your newly compiled kernel you don't have file
system support for the file-system used in the hard
disk.

No problem. Learn how to debug from grub prompt.
When grub loads, you can change its arguments on the
fly. Press 'e' to edit the highlighted option. You can
edit whichever line you want and see if it boots.
Google for some HOWTOs and tutorials.
