GPL is viral, meaning whenever you combine it with
some other license,
you'll need to release your software as GPL.

OTOH, you can choose to use software that have apache/BSD style license  
which are NOT viral...  In which case, you can decide to apply copyright  
to certain parts and copyleft to certain parts of *your* code...
