i am using Centos 5 version OS...
great
But how to chat in my Friend ....
whether you and your friend share the same network / LAN. If you people is
in the same LAN then you could you us IP messenger. IP messenger is
available for both Linux and in Windows version.

Linux Centos 5...
if you were connected through the internet, then you could use pidgin.
