Agreed, a small correction. Not _all_ the components are from GNU. GNU
aimed at giving a completely free operating system. Whenever the project
found an existing component that would fill in a gap the component was
used. The X-Window System and a variety of other such components were
used in a GNU system for this purpose.
What free software advocates must talk instead is about the goal of this
project. the linux project had no aim of giving a completely free
operating system. Nor does linus torvalds. In a recent interview in
BBC's clickonline he said with a tint of pun: "many people take this
operating system too seriously". We now live in a cyber era where
hospitals, flight control systems and defense systems use computers.
Operating systems are no longer just softwares that control the hardware
of a computer. OSes control the way we live our lives and IMHO it is
serious when we are not able to control the way we live.
Even more worse with this show on BBC: Linus was hailed as the person
who invented a revolutionary 'OS'. He was even asked how he is going to
take Linux to the desktop users. how weird? :)
