Hi, I am new to Linux World.I need a help of how to configure a
sound card. I tried to check whether sound card is configured or
not by using sndconfig. I got a message ESS Allegro : Unknown
device. What are the other options available???
There is a separate package called ALSA (Advaned Linux Sound
Architecture) that contains drivers for a number of sound cards for
which none are present in the stock kernel. You have to download the
alsa-driver package for your distribution. (In the near future alsa
will be part of the stock kernel)
ALSA contains drivers for many ESS cards like ESS ES688, ES1688, ESS
ES1938, ESS maestro etc.
I would suggest you give installing ALSA a try and get back with more
questions if you run into problems.
All's well that ends.
