MP3 has patent issues. Use OGG Vorbis <http://www.vorbis.com/>
instead. XMMS has ogg vorbis input plugins and should work just fine
(except the equalizer which does not work with OGGs -- but you can
always go find a "decent" hardware equalizer from ritchie street ;) )
