I think the problem is with /usr/lib/libcygwin.a
why dont u try the whether the symbol impure_ptr is there or not.
use
nm /usr/lib/libcygwin.a | grep impure_ptr

In my cygwin (running on Win2000), I am getting the following error:
"The procedure piont_impure_ptr could not be located in the dynamic
linked library cygwin1.dll"
However this error doesn't appear for some of the commands such as
"cal", "clean", whereas it appears for "ls" and few more.
I even replaced the cygwin1.dll with a fresh copy but no use. First
it occurred after I installed some utility. I thought that might have
created some problem and hence uninstalled it. But still no use.
Any clue what might be wrong?
