Your present FF setup is doing you no good, so what is your objection
to removing it and installing it afresh?
OK, before you do above, create a brand new user on your system. Login
into the system as the new user, fire up FF and see if you encounter
the same problem. If FF is able to connect/display external sites then
something in your personal setting is really hosed up - you will need
to clean it up. As the new user if the problem persists then you may
need to do a fresh install.
