well...gkrellm works good enough, some really good themes are
there....ok, you might not get some of the eye candy features there in
gdesklets, but is still awesome...atleast it isn't a hog
really...let's face it...for apps which are constantly going to be
running, like in the desktop during the course of the session, you do
need the space-time effeciency (atleast the 'space' part of it) of
compiled languages...not all have the luxury of a GB RAM and a 3.2 GHz
proc.
