Running linux on linux for application/domain isolation does not
require full-virtualization layers as provided by VMWare/Xen. The
RAM overhead of simultaneously running multiple OSes is just
too much.
Linux VServer (
http://linux-vserver.org/) provides Solaris 10 Zones
like security contexts and allows adequate isolation between domains.
Incomarison to VMWare/Xen, or even User Mode Linux, the CPU and
RAM overheads are minimal.
