there also no error. i can able to see Tamil in Languages and
Charactor Encoding window. Too many times i restarted Firefox. there
was no effect.

According to me right now, there are only two reasons for that to
happen because firefox is kind of platform independent (so it doesnot
matter what linux distro you use).
First reason:
No write permission for the current user to the directory where
firefox is installed. This is because the language pack is being
installed on the firefox installation directory (for eg. /opt/firefox
or /usr/lib/firefox) and not on /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox
directory. I found that it wont tell an error message for this kind of
illegal installation sometimes.
So, please check whether you have write permissions to the folder
where firefox is installed.
If firefox is installed with root permissions, then you should open up
firefox as a root user and then install the language pack.
Second reason:
I found this kind of weird. After installation, it didnt switch to
tamil language automatically in one of my installations. But, I found
that the language pack is installed properly. So, I used the locale
switcher to switch to TAMIL language and restarted firefox. Thats it,
it worked for me.
So, try installing locale switcher extension in your firefox and then
see whether the language pack is installed properly.
Dear Gilbert Raja,
If your problem does not fall under the above reasons, then do me a
favour, so that I can debug better in this issue. First open up any
terminal (konsole, gnome-terminal, xterm, etc). From the terminal,
open firefox (eg. "/opt/firefox/firefox" or "/usr/bin/firefox" or
"firefox" etc). Firefox, generally, dumps out the error messages on
the terminal screen. Just copy those messages and mail back to me
along with the message you got when installing the language pack. I
will try to debug it.
Also, in my college, there are redhat 9.0 machines and suse 9.2
machines. So, tomorrow, I will try installing the language
pack+firefox in them and see what happens.
