I have not looked into configuring with CLI tools as I have not doneplugged in, the networkmanager is normally configured to prefer wired over

With Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook edition on my HP mini, I am able to get WiFi
connection on this AP with the same WPA2 passphrase I am using in KDE.
?Ditto with Win XP on my brother's laptop.
You may have done this already. If the ethernet connection has a cable
wireless and thus wireless will never come on. If you've not tried this try
unplugging the ethernet cable and then this procedure.
Even after I did that, I had issues in some cases, especially if we use
WEP128 Hex. The problem was solved by switching to wicd. As I understand it,
the issue is largely with the supplicant.
