Unless, the vendor certifies the hardware for a particular OS, they
will most likely tell to take a hike, politely of course. Even for
server hardware, that are certified for RHEL/Novell SuSE, it must
match the version on their site. For an old Intel server board
(2006), Intel told me politely that it was certified for RHEL4 only.
The fact that RHEL 5 supersedes RHEL4 (a few years back) did not make
a difference to the Technical support chap in Bengaluru.
To the best of my knowledge, desktops / laptops are not supported
unless it came factory installed with Linux.
Other than that you can always check for the particular simulation software
which runs on windows . Search in sourceforge.net If it is not available
then you can go for full Linux installation
The OP is trying to get away from Wiindows.
