Yep! This is his problem.



By "deselected" you mean greyed out or disabled?   If so, that is indeed
strange.

On the CLI, what is the output of "sudo fdisk -l"?


I think, he will definitely create problem if i tell him to do this. :)





He should be able use CLI fdisk to delete some, if the system boots with
the Ubuntu LiveCD.


Same, he is really a novice user.
