It is fairly clear that top-posting has its
uses in particularly in an environment where
there is quick 'tap-back a one-liner' type of
exchange. I often end up with such exchanges in my
current organization - a hr consulting company;
had a lot in the previous company too - sw dev.
Often in these cases you are engaging in a short-term,
many - 5 -20 msgs - quick exchange. That is the mails
are part of a series that are expected by the recipient
and need to quickly fall into a pattern - the typical
participants in such exchanges have 4/5 such 'conversations'
going.
Literally this is an InstantMessnger type interaction,
with a very liberal definition of 'instant'. And in this
environment top-posting is probably preferable.
Of course none of these is applicable to the type of
discussions that take place on mailing lists.
In sum: top-post within yr company; not merely to
toe the PHB line. Stay off top-posting in mlists
PS: Nice to a vintage BGa post - with a new nice sheen
to that characteristic incisive style.
