I'm using thunderbird and I dont see that behavior at all. Is this a
plugin of some sort you're using?

I am actually getting quite bugged with Thunderbird (I have been using
it as a newsreader, giving slrn a rest). It I have a message open in
the reading pane and I mark another message as spam, it jumps to the
next message for no good reason :(

This is an option in your settings ..
