Anyone around that run Linux on Opteron, and provide a crude
comparative bechmark about its performance ?
I haven't used it, but here is a link to the single-processor
benchmarks of the Opteron 150 vs. Intel Xeon 3.6 GHz (Nocona),
both running a 64-bit kernel:

(This was in response to complaints about their earlier benchmarks that
had compared a Xeon to a less-expensive Athlon 64, instead of the
Opteron, and concluded that the Xeon was better).
