I don't claim expertise on this topic, but my understanding is that
Unicode doesn't actually specify how different glyphs should be
rendered on screen. Unicode abstracts each written unit - letters,
your oo/ooo, numerals, punctuation marks etc. - and leaves the actual
rendering of these units to the application used.
