A team of us has planned to celebrated SFD 2006 in our village
Mahadanapuram. The Leading Educationalist of South India Dr. Meena,
Principal, HOD. Department of Computer Science of Indira Gandhi College,
Trichy has accepted to give lecture and preside over the function on
September 16, 2006.
We have started conducting computer awareness programme in the following
schools,
1. Government High School, Thitamplayam, Mahadanapuram.
2. Government High School, Mettumahadanapuram, Mahadanapuram
3. Government Higher Secondary School, Sithalavai, Karur District
4. Government Higher Secondary School, Lalapet, Karur District.
.. We are having discussion with more schools.
At the same time we are having discussion with Colleges to form Computer
Literary Association and to conduct a group discussion about "Importance
of Software Freedom".
Surprising and really appreciable effort. If you wish some one from
ilugc (Chennai members) can join with you, so we get acquainted with
contacts around Trichy for planning further endeavors ?!
My ideas,
* Distribute Edubuntu CDS a few per school and show the students how to
play around. This will create interests in them to start innovative
learning.
* Teach them how to install and use GNU/Linux for their day to day
activities, and help them adopt GNU/Linux into their lives.
* Get to know real-time needs of softwares which can be taken up as a
project by students and developed as a FOSS solution. Thus, students
will get a chance to work on something useful and applicable in real
life and also, the need for a free software solution gets fulfilled.
* Try to avoid anti-XYZ propaganda, but stick to creating awareness
about FLOSS. Generally, people presume that we are against something
instead of understanding that we are showing them a better and parallel
solution.
We have planned to put banner in all the places in tamil. Sample

This our small effort.If any of you in and around trichy want to share
your thoughts and give guidance, you all are always welcome.
Big things start small. Its not how you start that determines the end
result, its how you perform, how you transform your ideas into action.
