Is it prudent to configure RAID0 on a single harddisk with partitions ( /,
/boot, /home/, /var and /usr) ? any experience and suggestion ?
RAID is for multiple physical HDDs only. No point in running
*any* RAID setup using a single HDD.
It is possible to do it in FreeBSD with gstripe(1), gmirror(1) and friends.
But I doubt if you would want to install it just for RAID on one HDD...
I frankly don't know the logic behind doing it. I think there are ways and
means of figuring out when your disk crashes as it usually dies a slow death.
There are tools that tell you that the patient is about to expire.
And you can save your data. HTH.
Best,
Girish
