Hi!
Consider this scenario:
One system having 2 NICs and each one is directly
connected to a different ISP with a unique IP address
(say aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa and bbb.bbb.bbb.bbb). It is a
direct connection (say through modem) and not going
through any local router.
Suppose I start a service in the system, to which IP
address does it get bound to? For example, say if I
start a ssh daemon, it should get bound to a port and
an IP address to form a socket. So which NIC will be
chosen? and what decides which NIC will be chosen?
Suppose, the sshd runs on aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa:22 socket. I
can change the default gateway route entry in the
route table so that all packets that are sent go from
the bbb.bbb.bbb.bbb IP address. Now, will I be able to
ssh into my system from the bbb.bbb.bbb.bbb address to
the ssh daemon running on aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa address
through the Internet?
Thanks,
Shaks
