ICON/KBCS-2004 STUDENT PAPER COMPETITION IN LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGIES

ICON/KBCS-2004 announces STUDENT PAPER COMPETITION in two tracks:
Track I
-------
. NLP Formalisms and Technologies
. Statistical, Knowledge-based and Hybrid Methods
. Linguistic and Computational Issues in Languages
. Development and Standardization of Lexical Resources
. Application areas - Machine Translation, Information Extraction,
Dialogue, etc.
Track II
--------
. Speech Synthesis
. Speech Recognition
. Handwriting Recognition
Prizes will be awarded in each track for up to two papers based
on original work carried out. The prizes are:
FIRST PRIZE: Rs 10000.
SECOND PRIZE: Rs 7500.
The prizes for Track II are sponsored by HP Labs India.

The short listed papers in each track will be invited for presentation
in a special session in ICON/KBCS-2004 conference. Registration, travel
and subsistence expenses will be provided by the conference organizers
for one author each.

RULES AND GUIDELINES:
---------------------
1. All authors must be full time undergraduate or graduate students
at the time of carrying out the work submitted for competition.
Former students who received degree during 2003 are also eligible.
The guidance provided to a student by a supervising professor while
carrying out the work is consistent with this rule thought the authors
should be only students.
2. A certificate from either the supervisor or Head/Dean of the Department
confirming the student status must be submitted along with the paper.
3. A paper that has been submitted to a journal or another conference is
ineligible. Papers submitted to ICON/KBCS-2004 that satisfy the previous
criteria are eligible. However, the paper must be resubmitted for the
competition.
5. The short listed papers will be invited for presentation in a special
Student Paper Competition session during ICON/KBCS-2004. The competitors
may also be asked to give the demonstrations to the judges at that time.
6. The awards for the competition will be announced and presented at
ICON/KBCS - 2004. All the short listed competitors will be given
certificates
of participation.
7. The paper must be in English and in the format specified by ICON/KBCS-2004
conference. Instructions are available at:

8. Please send your paper in the specified format with the subject line
"Submission for paper competition" to iconpapercontest@xxxxxxxx
9. The papers which have not been separately submitted to KBCS/ICON-2004
by the deadline will not be published in the conference proceedings even
if they are short listed for the competition.
