But for a budget-conscious user AMD might be a
better option than Intel processor. The performance
drop in comparison might not be too drastic
considering the price factor.
Recently, a slew of problems that I have had with branded Intel mobos
[1] has made me revise my view. I have had failures with server,
desktop and Atom boards. YMMV.
And yes, AMD still seems to have heating problems
in some of their processor models. My AMD Neo based
netbook (ASUS 1210T) gets extremely hot when I push
it to the edge (like compiling the Linux kernel,
or running any intensive FPS game).
Have you done the same on an Intel based netbook? My HP mini (Atom
230) spews warm air when I open up multiple FF tabs with Flash content
and a couple of other apps like OO word and spreadsheet.
[1] A mid priced mobo has crapped out on me 4 times within the last 10
months. Luckily it is under a 3 year warranty but .... Intel's RMA
process is frustrating - you have to prove your innocence. I have
been asked to reflash the BIOS when I have told them that the board
has a display problem or does not POST! The average time interval
wasted is about 2-3 weeks. Again YMMV
