one tip from my experience in speaking at the chennai lug: the linux 
machine was not working, so I borrowed a laptop from the audience - 
dont even know what operating system was on it. My slides were in 
S5 format (html+css) which will run on any operating system 
whatsoever as long as it has a browser
  
S5 takes your message a long way. Its much easier to use. Just check out
