According to the jabber site wildfire is 98% compliant with XMPP whereas
ejabberd is 91%. Wildfire also has asterisk integration. So integrating

PSTN network to your LAN IM would be a possibility.
For client you can try jwChat. Its a pure ajax client.
I was really surprised to see ejabberd working out of the box without any
issues!..cool....and i checked with Kopete and Gaim.Both work flawlessly. I
dont want to try jwchat as i have been instructed not to use web interface
for chatting :).

docs on how to install ejabberd and make it ready as server. There is a cool
video and that video helped me (the installation is so simple that you
wouldnt require any videos ;-) ).
There are many options available in ejabberd, now we are going to implement
in the server. So , now it is time to get stuck up with problems and i think
then we will learn to customize with options :).
