[Ilugc] Kernel upgrade problem 2.4.18-14 to latest 2.6.8.1 kernel

Did you upgrade modutils (and the other stuff required before you can 
upgrade from 2.4 to 2.6) first?

For your kind info: In the process of debugging this problem, i lost my 
/etc/modules.conf file. How to get it back or generate? :( :(

2.6.x uses /etc/modprobe.conf and this is generated by running

# /sbin/generate-modprobe.conf > /etc/modprobe.conf

        srs
