IMHO, FLOSS should be <em>just considered</em> as another technology or
opportunity for employment. It should be something similar to "I learn
Java/.NET/ASP, I get a decent Job". I still remember a few years back,
when I was at my high school, a lot of people rushed towards Oracle,
then sometime later towards Java, then towards .NET. This shouldn't be a
trend repeating with Open Source.
Students/Freshers should not just take up a career in Open Source just
because they get a Job. I don't mean that "Job" is not a/the way to get
people into FOSS, but it shouldn't be the foremost reason. They should
understand and appreciate the philosophies and ideologies of FLOSS and
then make a decision whether it is good for them.
Thus emphasis should be on letting them be aware of FLOSS, know at least
a few of the nook-and-corners and then let them decide what they are
going to pursue depending upon their interest.
"Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." - Yes this is
what the max we can do. Its up to them, whether they fish a shark or a
snail! ;) Community can only share your weights, not carry your weights
for you :)
