Not all. Only some people. There are others who think that the entire
download/CD/ISO/whatever is indeed Linux.
Over the years, the media and others have
been calling the system incorrectly as Linux. We all
know that without GNU softwares and packages, Linux is
not functional.
For someone deploying it as a webserver, it is not functional without
apache either. Someone who wants a fileserver - it is not functional
without samba. Someone wants a DNS server - not functional without
Bind. Mail server - not functional without Sendmail or Postfix or
Qmail.
So let us call it Apache/Samba/ISC/DJB/GNU/Linux?
We can't even compile Linux without
the GNU C Compiler (gcc).
IIRC, ICC could also be used to compile the Linux kernel.
I would like to make a request on changing our LUG
name to either:
Indian GNU/Linux User's Group, Chennai (IGLUGC)
I'd rather suggest a separate list altogether and leave ilugc alone.
