I really like this group...people keep saying that I'll become Bill
Gates :-)
1. I felt Microsoft really needs a good competitor, which could not be
destroyed by any means(IP or any marketing tactics) or should not
become obsolete by itself(either it has no supporters or there is no
money or ideas to further improve it). I find Linux as good one. Only
this kind of competition can make a product better. Look at what
happened to Internet Explorer,it didn't have any feature improvement for
the past five years. Suddenly there is an announcement that they will
introduce new features in the next version, like tabbed browsing,
pop-up blocking and an option to uninstall plugins. I think this is
possible only when there is a competition(though the market share for
other browsers were negligible). I don't like microsoft to have
monopoly in software market.
I totally agree. The IE team has been asleep ever after they rolled
Netscape into the ground. I'll be really happy if Firebird can give
those guys a run for their money...in the end, we (the consumers) will
be the winner. I'm not saying Microsoft is perfect...they have done a
lot of bad stuff and have abused their monopoly too. But they don't
deserve the kind of criticism they constantly get (especially since
they've improved tremendously in the last couple of years). You know
what really excites me right now? Microsoft vs Google? Two companies
...both of which I really admire. Google is no Netscape or WordPerfect
or IBM (OS/2)..they won't sleep. Its gonna be a pretty exciting
battle...lets get the pop-corn and watch this battle :-)
BTW, the upcoming WinXp SP2(which is a free download) adds a bunch of
features to IE (including pop-up blocking). I'm waiting for the
flame-wars regarding Longhorn to start....for then, expect to see some
really long mails from me:-)
