You make a valid point . There is a dire need of Open fabrication
labs. Are there any in chennai ?
There are some simple things achievable by Raspberry pie

There is also arduino which is quite famous with FOSS people on the
hardware side

There are quite many ways to do things even on the cheaper side but
yes more support is needed to build such an environment and we do have
many such people in ilugc who can help !
