I tried Gentoo on a virtualBox without any X server. It was good, but I
prefer Ubuntu.

Why this means?
- Installation is one of the most toughest part in gentoo and linux users
avoiding gentoo because of the installation.
- Gentoo uses *portage *packaging system which is based on *BSD*-style
compiling source code of packages. To make a complete system with the
packages like X11, gnome , kde will take long-time.
Try this, reach me if you have any problems.
