I am behind a proxy server and was using all this while.
The "pager port" settings that i was using were 5050,119,80 etc...
At any given piint of time,atleast one of these would work.
These are some of the suggested ports in the FAQ at gaim.sourceforge
I have no clue as whether these are arbitrary.
But now, all the suggested ports are being blocked by my proxy.
I get "proxy server does not allow xxx tunneling" as the error message
All of the above is for a yahoo! account.
For my msn accoount..there is a "http method" ..which also fails..says
"reading error"
I have written to the sys ads who take care of the network asking them
allow tunneling.but i have not received any response from them.
Is there any way that I can overcome this problem??
Also, i need to mention here that yahoo messenger in windows and amsn
in linux work fine..i just named the proxy servers..i did not have to
choose tunneling ports etc.

ps: i also faced another unusual problem..the account properties
window of the yahoo! account goes far beyond the screen size and i am
not able to see a few text boxes at the bottom!..these are for
setting ur own proxy settings..as a result of this i am using
"environmental settings"
