Greetings!
We will be resuming our GLV sessions from Saturday,
May 21, 2005. Our next meet will be at Ma Foi Academy,
Chennai. I am planning to do a talk on "Introduction
to LaTeX". Or, if anyone is interested in giving a
talk, do let me know.
We will begin our new initiatives after the talk:
a. database review: We will review the database of
companies who use/develop GNU/Linux. Right now it is
available at:
http://www.shakthimaan.com -> Database
We will constantly refine it in course of time. This
is a work-in-progress.
b. company review: In this session, we will research
about a company: products, careers, skills required,
locations, contacts etc.
If possible, we can also invite people from the
companies to explain to us on what they are doing,
what they expect from prospective students, their
products, services etc.
We can also look into recent news updates or
announcements of walk-in-interviews or ads.
c. skills review: In this session, we will look at the
skills required for a particular designation, how you
can keep your skills updated, understand interview
questions, etc.
If anyone would like to share their interview
experience, we can do that too.
We also need to prepare a database of questions that
are frequently asked, and that each one of us are
expected to know. For instance, if a skill requires C
programming, then, the database will contain problem
questions on C code.
d. project-work templates: In this session, we will be
designing/discussing project-work timeline schedules,
where a newbie or an expert can use it to complete a
project.
The project can be a final-year project or a learning
experience project to be done at sourceforge.net. We
can discuss on the resources/links that can help us to
learn (for example php), the ways of getting help from
the community and so on. This will _not_ be an
advisor-student initiative, but, a means by which you
can get help from the community as such.
