Governments that impose harsh restrictions on their citizens, backed
up by cruel punishments, on behalf of corporations, are showing that
they are not really on the citizens's side. They're not working for
us, they don't represent us except with lip service. They represent
the corporations and their goal is to rule us. These governments are
democratic only in name. And since governments get their legitimacy
from ruling on behalf of the people and protecting the people's
rights, these governments lose their legitimacy.
I'm very sad to say that almost all governments around the World have
done this. "Government of the people, by the flunkies, for the
corporations". And it makes me very sad" (Stallman at

Sounds perfect, CK Raju
Lol. Come on, do people really subscribe to these lop-sided views? It's
really sad to see ILUGC's mailing list being used to spew RMS' communist
propaganda. He might very well have done a lot for 'software freedom'
(as in beer and speech), but this is a very broad generalization, aimed
at nothing but to smear. Observe the first passage - explain a lot about
all the bad things governments do, and throw in the word "corporations"
in there, and now it's all the corporations' fault. Accusation by
attribution. Clever.
Sure, there maybe some evil corporations (some oil and pharma companies
for example), but there are lot many good corporations. Statements like
"corporations are bad" are a very slippery slope, and not all of them
aim to global domination and making puppets of governments. There's
another side to this - we elect such easily corruptible politicians. Now
who's to be blamed?
