Linux drivers are available from Epson's site <http://ow.ly/yOa5l>
I have had reasonably good experience with Epson scanners + their Linux 
driver.
Expect the same to be true with the printer.

I have had good experience with HP printers. (Own an HP Deskjet 2050
j510 All-in-one Printer but it has cartridge.)
