Sure. But then GPL comes along and spoils all the fun :p. Somehow, I
have a tough time seeing AR and RMS seeing eye to eye on any issue at
all. They're both polar opposites in what they preach (and I'm probably
insulting AR's intelligence by making a comparison in the first place).
Creating software for fun sure is a selfish intention and I think would
be noble in AR's eyes, but the 'mandatory' sharing she would have chafed
at :)

Sure -- dont share if you dont want to -- i dont see google sharing any of
its algorthms inspite of being a huge consumer of Linux-- it is only  make a
payment to the authors if you are selling it back -- and the payment is not
in money-- but in value-- since you are so interested in AR let me put it in
Ragnar Daneskjold's words-- the  gold which you want as payment in this case
is nothing less than your code-- go ahead make that payment and collect all
you want to -- nobody - stops you
